1885. Peerless cook Eugenie (Juliette Binoche) has worked for the famous gourmet Dodin (Benoît Magimel) for the last 20 years. Their association gives rise to dishes, one more delicious than the next, that confound even the world’s most illustrious chefs.
BIOGRAPHY
Trần Anh Hùng, a French filmmaker of Vietnamese descent, was born in Mỹ Tho, South Vietnam, in 1962, and immigrated to France at the age of 12 following the fall of Saigon in 1975. Initially majoring in philosophy, Hùng's path shifted when he encountered Robert Bresson's film A Man Escaped, inspiring him to pursue a career in film. Hùng has been a prominent figure in the wave of acclaimed overseas Vietnamese cinema for the past two decades, gaining international recognition for his films. His Oscar-nominated debut, The Scent of Green Papaya (1993), won accolades at the Cannes Film Festival. Subsequent works, including Cyclo (1995) and The Vertical Ray of the Sun (2000), formed a Vietnam trilogy. After a sabbatical, he directed I Come with the Rain (2009) and adapted Haruki Murakami's Norwegian Wood (2010). His return in a French production, The Pot-au-Feu, featuring Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel, is his latest work.
